Misspellings by the census enumerator and illegible handwriting on the census pages makes compiling indexes to any census year a challenging job. In an effort to make the indexes more useable, a project is underway to identify every single person in each census year in Bosque County by comparing family members to a genealogical database. The index spellings will be corrected accordingly. The project is currently focusing on the 1860 and 1870 census years.
The spellings of names by the Bosque County enumerator for the 1870 census year were extremely poor and often mangled beyond any recognition, especially for Norwegian names. If you have reason to believe that a name should be in the 1870 Bosque County census but you cannot find it, contact Bruce Wiland who is working on revising the indexes.
