Courthouse Restoration Project

Courthouse Rededication! The rededication of the restored 1886 Bosque County Courthouse took place on September 22, 2007. The celebration started at 5:00 with a parade down Main Street. The parade passed in front of Meridian Manor heading south on Main to the east side of the Courthouse. Communities throughout Bosque County were represented in the parade which included antique cars, firetrucks, motorcycles, horse riders, two marching bands, and floats. After the parade, the ceremony included speakers County Judge Cole Word, former County Judge Bobby Joe Conrad,  United States Congressman Chet Edwards (17th Congressional District of Texas), Texas State Representative Rob Orr; and several individuals from the Texas Historical Commission. A United States flag was presented by the Elizabeth Crockett chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the Bosque County Volunteer Fire Departments provided food and drink. An official ribbon cutting was followed by an open house of  the beautifully restored courthouse.

Courthouse Turret Placement! As one of the major phases of the Bosque County Courthouse restoration project which began in 2001, the turrets, which crowned the original courthouse, were set in place on Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 starting at dawn and continuing until almost midnight. The four, newly fabricated massive turrets, constructed by Chisum Steel in Paris, Texas, stand approximately 30-feet square, are 17-feet tall, and weigh approximately 33,000 pounds each. This was the first outward appearance of the huge restoration project that shows the architectural significance of the original courthouse. Click on the thumbnails below to see a larger image.
